Icewine Varieties

Canada’s Niagara Peninsula is Ontario’s foremost viticulture region located in the immediate vicinity of the world wonder, the Niagara Falls. Two distinctive aspects of the Niagara region are a blessing to winemakers. Nearby Lake Ontario has a moderating influence on the microclimate. The Niagara Escarpment, over which the famous Niagara Falls flows, creates a further moderating of climate and also supports the area’s soils with mineral rich deposits of glacial till left behind by receding glaciers some 13,000 years ago.

Like Burgundy, Germany, Oregon and New Zealand, Niagara is a classic cool climate viticulture region, ideally suited for the growing of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling as well as, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Icewine. Inniskillin focuses on these core varietals that grow well in the region. Perfectly crafted under the cool climate conditions the Niagara Peninsula affords, Inniskillin’s Niagara wines have distinctive elegance and finesse.

Varietal Series
These wines express the characteristic varietal styles and the exceptional flavours of the major grape varieties grown in the Niagara region. The whites are unoaked while the reds are either unoaked or lightly oaked. view wines
Reserve Series
The Reserve Series use a choice of grapes harvested from select premium vineyards each year. Layers of flavours are developed during the blending process to ensure the best quality. The Reserve Series Wines are fuller and richer in style than our Varietal Series wines; more oak aging gives the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc varieties more complexity. view wines
Single Vineyard Series
The Single Vineyard wines are truly distinctive estate and vineyard wines using grapes from exceptional Niagara Region vineyard sites identified by the growers name on the label. These wines reflect not only the varietal character but also the unique terroir of each vineyard. view wines
Founders' Series
The Founders' Series wines represent the pinnacle of grape growing and winemaking at Inniskillin. These wines, using only a selection of the classic varieties of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, are carefully vinified and aged to their prime in oak. Our final selections from individual barrels are fine wines rich in flavours, the best the Niagara Peninsula Region has to offer. Very limited quantities are released only in years where the quality is sufficient to warrant being part of the Founders’ Series view wines
